Challenge
BraveWorks engaged with Scribe, LLC, during a rebranding process in which they changed their name and mission to more accurately describe their services and intended impact on the Charlotte community. BraveWorks had been awarded one-time COVID-19 Relief funds the year before engaging with Scribe. Due to COVID-19-related restrictions, program referral and enrollment numbers had dropped from 120 to 74, though community need persisted. As BraveWorks positioned itself to increase enrollment steadily, new funding partners were required to bridge the funding gap.
Solution
During the first year of engagement, we assisted in diversifying their grant funding by focusing on different aspects of their program and providing targeted feedback on goals and outcomes. We developed new language to tell the story of BraveWorks and the women participating in the program.
Implementation & Results
We aligned BraveWorks with economic mobility and workforce development, securing new funding partners with no existing relationship from Truliant Charitable Foundation and Truist Foundation within the first year, and later TD Bank Foundation, totaling $145,000 in new program funds.
We also developed language and strengthened outcomes to pursue Arts and Culture grants, emphasizing the importance of the Arts in resilience and recovery.
Outcomes
Within the first year, we secured a new partnership with the Arts and Science Council and $35,000 in program support. The following year, we secured $40,000 from the City of Charlotte’s Infusion Funds for art-related programming. We have also assisted in securing new funding partnerships with local foundations, such as the Albemarle Foundation and the CPPS Heritage Mission Fund, helping BraveWorks cultivate relationships that will continue to have a lasting impact in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. BraveWorks served 105 women in 2024, representing a 42% increase over the previous year's engagement.
