Challenge

Our client needed a strategic and sustainable approach to institutional fundraising to support the growth of its programs, without overwhelming its lean internal team or losing proper stewardship and momentum with current funders.

Solution

In 2023, our client partnered with Scribe to build a proactive grants strategy. Together, we created a flexible monthly grants calendar targeting 3–5 aligned opportunities, balancing existing relationship stewardship while allowing room for new, high-potential partnerships.

Implementation & Results

ear 1 focused on laying a foundation: tracking deadlines, clarifying funder alignment, and establishing a rhythm. In Year 2, with strong collaboration and insight into funder behavior, we shifted our priorities to focus on higher-ROI opportunities, aiming for a 50%+ increase in institutional funding.

Outcomes

In just two years, our client increased its foundation and corporate funding by 50%, unlocking greater resources while deepening existing relationships and expanding into new networks. By the end of Year 2, our client was on track to meet its ambitious fundraising target, having increased institutional giving by 55% over the prior year and strengthened its pipeline for long-term sustainability.

A clear grants strategy paired with flexibility made the difference, allowing our client to properly honor its existing funders and capitalize on opportunities with new partners. In Year 3, we will build on these lessons, aiming for even greater impact through smart prioritization.
